Very Easy to Trash Someone’: Suniel Shetty Backs Varun Dhawan Amid Border 2 Trolls
Suniel Shetty has come out strongly in support of Varun Dhawan following the online backlash the actor has faced after the release of Border 2’s song Ghar Kab Aaoge. Varun’s performance in the song was heavily trolled on social media, with users targeting his facial expressions and smile, which quickly became the subject of memes and criticism.
Reacting to the trolling, Suniel Shetty, who was part of the original Border, spoke to Bombay Times and urged people to reserve judgment until they have actually seen the film. He pointed out that audiences have only seen brief glimpses so far and not the complete performance.
Suniel praised Varun Dhawan, saying he will “kill it” in Border 2 and described his performance as outstanding. He clarified that Varun is not playing himself but portraying a decorated officer who has sacrificed his life for the country. Suniel also highlighted the need for people to think twice before posting harsh comments online, lamenting how easy it has become to trash and run down someone on social media.
Following the release of Ghar Kab Aaoge, Varun Dhawan faced criticism from several users accusing him of overacting and questioning his acting skills. Varun later addressed the backlash during an AMA session on X (formerly Twitter), responding to a troll by saying that the negative attention had actually helped make the song a hit and that audiences were enjoying it.
Directed by Anurag Singh, Border 2 is the sequel to J. P. Dutta’s 1997 blockbuster Border. The film stars Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh, and Ahan Panday in lead roles, with Sonam Bajwa, Anya Singh, Medha Rana, and Mona Singh in important supporting roles. Produced by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, J. P. Dutta, and Nidhi Dutta under the banners of T-Series Films and J. P. Films, this war drama is set against the backdrop of the India–Pakistan war of 1971. Border 2 is scheduled for a theatrical release on January 23.
