Election Results Date And Time: When Will Counting Begin In All States and Union Territory

For political enthusiasts in India, May 4, 2026 is the most significant event of the year as the election results for the states of West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Assam and the union territory of Puducherry will be declared and the results will determine if the old government retains power or if the government will change and the months long endeavour of the politicians of various parties will finally show results.

The Big Date: May 4


The Election Commission of India (ECI) has synchronized the results for all assembly elections to be declared on May 4, 2026.

This ‘Monday madness’ would see the simultaneous counting of over 824 assembly constituency seats. The centralized schedule would ensure that the national narrative is not skewed by staggered results, providing a comprehensive picture of India’s regional political climate in one go.


Counting timeline


Counting begins at 8:00 AM with Postal Ballots followed by Electronic Voting Machine at 8:30 AM and around 3:00 PM onwards, the official winners are declared for most constituencies. In close contests, Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail is verified which can delay the process by several hours.

State-wise Elections Breakdown


Assam, Kerala and Puducherry have 126,140 and 30 seats respectively and the polling took place on April 9. Tamil Nadu has 234 seats and the polling took place on April 23. West Bengal has 294 seats and the voting was concluded in two phases. The first phase took place on April 23 and the second phase took place on April 29.

Exit polls 2026 :


West Bengal


The exit polls are released with most pollsters predicting BJP to win by a slight margin in West Bengal. However, only People’s pulse predicted TMC to win by a landslide 185 seats.

Tamil Nadu


In Tamil Nadu most pollsters predicted DMK+ to win. However, only Axis My India predicted TVK to win with 109 seats.

Assam


In Assam all pollsters predict NDA to win by a large margin, with JVC and Axis My India giving NDA a breathtaking 94 seats.

Kerala


In Kerala, all pollsters predict the United Democratic Front to win the elections with a slight margin over the Left Democratic Front. P- Marq projects 75 seats for the UDF and 65 for the LDF. Axis My India gave the most to UDF with 83 seats and 55 to LDF. Across surveys, BJP is expected to get 2-4 seats.


Puducherry


In Puducherry, all have predicted NRC+ to win with a slight margin over INC+, with JVC predicting NRC+ to win 16 seats and INC+ to win 12 seats.
