This new scheme will be officially launched on Monday, December 9, during the ‘Vikash Bharat’ event in Panipat, Haryana. Designed especially for women living in rural areas, Bima Sakhi Yojana opens the door to steady income and long-term self-reliance.

Under the scheme, selected women will work as Bima Sakhi agents for the Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC). Employment opportunities in rural regions are often limited, particularly for women. This initiative directly addresses that gap by offering both training and income support, enabling women to build a career while staying within their communities.

Financial support is a key highlight of the scheme. Women who join will receive ₹7,000 per month in the first year. In the second year, the monthly amount will be ₹6,000, followed by ₹5,000 per month in the third year. On top of this fixed income, participants can earn additional commission-based incentives, with total earnings potentially reaching up to ₹20,000 per month, depending on performance and insurance targets achieved.

The government plans to implement the scheme in phases. In the first phase, around 35,000 women will be recruited as LIC agents. Looking ahead, there is a proposal to include 50,000 more women, expanding the reach and impact of the programme. While the scheme is being launched initially in Haryana, it will be rolled out nationwide in a phased manner.

Eligibility criteria have been kept simple to ensure wider participation. Women between 18 and 50 years of age can apply, provided they have passed Madhyamik (Class 10).

Overall, Bima Sakhi Yojana is expected to play a crucial role in empowering rural women, offering them financial stability, professional identity, and a chance to contribute meaningfully to household and national growth.
