Key Dates for Budget Session 2026

The Cabinet Committee on Parliamentary Affairs (CCPA) has approved the schedule for the upcoming budget session, putting all doubts to rest. As per the finalized plan, the President will address Parliament on January 28, setting the tone for the session. This will be followed by the presentation of the Economic Survey on January 29. The much-awaited Union Budget will then be tabled on Sunday, February 1.

This makes Budget 2026 a rare occasion, as it will be presented on a Sunday, something not seen in recent years.

Budget Session Timeline

The budget session will be held in two phases. The first part will run from January 28 to February 13, focusing on the President’s address, Economic Survey, and the Budget presentation. The second phase of the session is scheduled from March 9 to April 2, during which detailed discussions and legislative business will take place.

Nirmala Sitharaman’s Ninth Budget

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is set to make history once again as she presents her ninth Union Budget on February 1, 2026. This will also be India’s 88th Union Budget since Independence. Continuing a tradition started in 2017 under former Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, the budget will be presented at 11 a.m. This timing allows the government to roll out new financial policies right from the start of the new financial year on April 1.

With the date now confirmed, all eyes are on Budget 2026 and the key announcements it may bring.
