Newspoint

A bizarre and shocking crime story has emerged from Gorakhpur, where a gang ran an elaborate fake marriage racket to cheat unsuspecting families. The mastermind, Ankur Singh—a known history-sheeter—allegedly used a combination of staged weddings and fake police raids to extort money from victims across Rajasthan and Haryana. Police have arrested seven members of the gang, while a key accused posing as the bride is still absconding.

According to investigators, Ankur Singh would disguise himself as a police inspector, while his associates acted as constables to make the operation look authentic. The gang worked in a highly organized manner to avoid suspicion. They targeted unmarried or older men struggling to find matches and lured them with promises of marriage through a broker based in Haryana. Victims were brought to Gorakhpur with assurances of finding suitable brides from Uttar Pradesh or Bihar.

The gang even arranged fake wedding ceremonies to build trust. Women were paid to act as brides, and another member played the role of a relative to make the setup look genuine. Once the groom’s family arrived and the ceremony began, Ankur Singh would suddenly enter in a police uniform with his team, accusing the family of illegal marriage or other fabricated charges. Under pressure and fear, the victims were forced to pay large sums of money to avoid “legal trouble.”

The racket came to light after a victim from Rajasthan filed a complaint. During the investigation, police traced the gang’s operations and identified the hideout. However, the woman who acted as the bride managed to flee before the police could arrest her. Authorities are now tracking her through call records and location data.

Police officials confirmed that the arrested accused have been sent to jail and further investigation is underway to determine how many families were duped by this gang.

Raids are ongoing to nab the absconding members and uncover the full extent of the fraud.
