Free LPG Cylinder Scheme Rolled Out Before Holi, Check Complete Details
Free LPG Cylinder Benefit Announced for Holi, Know Eligibility and Process: Free LPG Cylinders Announced Ahead of Holi Festivities: With Holi approaching, a major relief measure has been rolled out for households in select regions. Millions of families are set to benefit from free LPG cylinders as part of festive welfare support. The initiative is aimed at reducing household expenses during the celebration period, when spending typically rises. However, the benefit is limited to eligible residents of Uttar Pradesh and Delhi, with access linked to welfare scheme enrolment and ration card eligibility.
In Uttar Pradesh, the festive assistance is being extended under an ongoing clean cooking fuel initiative that supports economically weaker households. Women beneficiaries are receiving free LPG refills as part of a two-phase annual distribution plan.
The first phase of the cycle was implemented during the Diwali season between October and December 2025. The second phase, which coincides with Holi celebrations, is being executed between January and March 2026. Through this round, nearly 18.6 million women across the state are expected to receive free LPG refills.
The state administration had earmarked a substantial budget allocation last year to ensure smooth implementation. The scheme is designed not only to ease festive financial pressure but also to encourage continued use of clean cooking fuel among rural and low-income households.
The approved support amount stands at Rs 853 per cylinder, which reflects the prevailing market price in the city. Funds will be transferred directly into beneficiaries’ bank accounts through the Direct Benefit Transfer mechanism, ensuring transparency and faster disbursal.
Households using Piped Natural Gas connections but holding valid ration cards are also included within the benefit framework. Authorities have set aside dedicated financial resources to implement the scheme efficiently across eligible categories.
Beneficiaries covered under the scheme receive combined assistance that factors in the central subsidy component. After adjusting the existing subsidy of Rs 300 per cylinder, eligible households receive additional financial aid, reducing their effective refill expense significantly.
Meanwhile, ration card holders not enrolled under the clean fuel scheme receive the full transfer amount equivalent to the cylinder’s market rate. This ensures broader festive relief coverage across income groups.
The expansion drive successfully added millions of new LPG connections within a short span. By late 2022, total connections issued under the extended phase had crossed major distribution milestones, significantly improving clean fuel penetration.
A notable reform under the expansion model included relaxed documentation norms for migrant families. Self-declaration provisions allowed applicants without permanent address proof or ration cards to obtain LPG connections, widening access among mobile and informal worker populations.
Further approvals were granted to expand connection coverage through the 2023–2026 period, strengthening long-term clean energy adoption goals while supporting household welfare.
As festive demand rises, such targeted subsidy programmes continue to play a crucial role in shielding vulnerable families from price pressures while promoting safer and cleaner cooking alternatives.
