In a glittering evening filled with cultural pride and community spirit, the tenth annual Gujarat-Maharashtra Day was celebrated by the Gujarati Associations of North America ( GANA ). Held in partnership with the Consulate General of India in New York and the Federation of Indian Associations (FIA) NY-NJ-CT-NE, the Gujarat-Maharashtra Day 2026 event took place on Friday, May 1, 2026.

The celebration brought together an enthusiastic Indian diaspora , dignitaries, elected officials, and artists, turning this important milestone into a memorable evening of shared identity, heritage, and unity.

A Celebration Rooted in Culture and History


The formal Gujarat-Maharashtra Day program began with a Ganesh Stuti, setting a reverent tone for an evening that beautifully blended speeches, cultural performances, and community recognition.


At the heart of the celebration was a powerful message. Gujarat and Maharashtra, two states deeply connected by history and heritage, continue to stand together as major symbols of India’s economic strength and cultural influence on the global stage.

Cultural Performances that Lit Up the Evening


The Gujarat-Maharashtra Day celebration featured an impressive lineup of artists who added energy and emotion to the evening.

Grammy Award-winning artist Falu Shah delivered a soulful musical performance that resonated deeply with the audience.

Hardik Chauhan

Hardik Chauhan captivated guests with a vibrant showcase of his Saurashtra-inspired Gujarati folk style, bringing the spirit of Gujarat to the New York stage.

Dancing Stars

The youth troupe Dancing Stars, choreographed by Heena Gupte, presented a high-energy fusion performance combining Maharashtrian Ganapati folk traditions with Gujarati Garba and Dandiya. Their act became one of the standout moments of the Gujarat-Maharashtra Day event.

Community Flavors Added a Personal Touch


One of the most memorable highlights of Gujarat-Maharashtra Day 2026 was the celebratory dinner, featuring an entirely vegetarian spread prepared by community home chefs.


Men and women from the community presented recipes that had been preserved across generations in their own kitchens. By giving these local cooks a place alongside high-profile speakers and dignitaries, the event paid tribute to the culinary traditions that continue to keep the idea of “home” alive for younger generations growing up in the Indian diaspora.

Keynote Speeches Highlighted Economic Strength and Unity


Ambassador Vinay Kwatra, India’s Ambassador to the United States, praised GANA and the Consulate General of India in New York for promoting unity through the Gujarat-Maharashtra Day celebration.

He noted that Gujarat and Maharashtra together contribute nearly 25% of India’s total GDP.

“The real India-U.S. partnership is felt on the ground in these states,” Kwatra remarked, describing the diaspora as a “living bridge” between the two nations.

Hon. Suresh Prabhu, former Union Cabinet Minister, offered an insightful comparison between India’s federal system and the traditional Hindu concept of a joint family.


He said that as “stronger members” of this family, Gujarat and Maharashtra carry the responsibility of driving growth for the entire country. He also predicted that these two powerhouses, one known for entrepreneurship and the other as India’s financial capital, will play a leading role in taking India toward its $1 trillion economy target.

Honoring Leaders from the Indian American Community


The Gujarat-Maharashtra Day celebration also recognized the growing political influence of Indian Americans in the United States.

Mayor Hemant Marathe of West Windsor, New Jersey, and Mayor Pulkit Desai of Parsippany-Troy Hills, New Jersey, were honored for their leadership and public service.

Bollywood actresses Archana Joglekar and Pooja Jhaveri were also present as special guests, adding to the evening’s significance.

GANA Reflects on a Decade of Service


GANA President Srujal Parikh reflected on the organization’s ten-year journey of community service and cultural connection.

He highlighted initiatives such as Diwali soup kitchens in Ahmedabad and wheelchair donation programs. “These efforts are bridges between our past and our future,” Parikh said.

He also shared a special message from the Chief Minister of Gujarat, further underscoring the importance of the Gujarat-Maharashtra Day milestone.

Strengthening the Indian Diaspora Bridge


Ankur Vaidya, Chairman of FIA and co-founder of GANA, praised the Maharashtrian community for their decade-long partnership.

He described the collaboration as a powerful example of how diverse diaspora communities can work together while preserving their distinct cultural roots.

FIA President Sreekanth Akkapalli also commended GANA for sustaining the Gujarat-Maharashtra Day tradition with such scale and grandeur for more than ten years.


A Memorable Milestone for Indian Heritage in America


The evening concluded with the recognition of philanthropists Saurin Dave and Kenny Desai.

GANA Vice President Priti Ray-Patel and Secretary Smita Miki Patel delivered the closing vote of thanks, bringing the landmark Gujarat-Maharashtra Day 2026 celebration to a fitting close.

More than just an annual event, the evening stood as a powerful celebration of Indian heritage in America, honoring culture, community, and the enduring bond between Gujarat, Maharashtra, and the global Indian diaspora.
