How to Get Your Learner’s License from Home Easily

Step 1: Understand the Two-Step Process
In India, obtaining a driving license involves two stages:- Learner’s Driving License (LL) - This is your first step. You can start driving only after receiving this license.
- Permanent Driving License (DL) - After completing the mandatory learner’s period and passing the driving test, you can apply for a permanent license.
Step 2: Apply for a Learner’s License Online
To begin, visit parivahan.gov.in and click on the “Online Test” option. Next, go to the Sarathi portal, select your state, and choose “Apply for Learner Licence.”Here’s what you need to do:
- Enter your Aadhaar number or Virtual ID and verify with the OTP sent to your mobile.
- Fill in personal details such as your name, date of birth, and address.
- Upload necessary documents like identity proof, address proof, and age proof.
- Pay the application fee online and save your application number for reference.
Step 3: Take the Online Learner’s License Test
After submitting your application, you must pass the online learner’s license test (STALL). To take the test:- Click on Online LL Test (STALL) on the Sarathi portal.
- Enter your application number and captcha.
- Complete the test, which checks your knowledge of traffic rules, signs, and road safety.
Step 4: Prepare for Your Permanent Driving License
After holding your learner’s license for the mandatory period (usually 30 days), you can apply for a permanent license. Here’s what to do:- Visit your nearest RTO with your learner’s license, identity documents, and fee receipt.
- Take the practical driving test. This evaluates your driving skills, knowledge of road safety, and traffic regulations.
- Once you pass, your permanent driving license will be sent to your address.
