India rolls out Jan Vishwas Bill to decriminalize 1,000 provisions

Piyush Goyal says penalties replace jail

Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal, the bill swaps prison sentences for penalties on minor issues but keeps strict action for serious crimes.
It also updates rules around health care violations: hospitals and clinics get penalties (not jail) for first-time mistakes but could see bigger penalties if they keep repeating them.

So far, 12 states have already jumped on board with their own versions of this law.
