Starting April 1, 2026, passengers can now change their boarding station up to just 30 minutes before the train departs. This update, implemented through IRCTC, replaces the older rule that required changes at least 24 hours in advance.

What’s New?

The biggest relief is flexibility. Whether your plans change suddenly or you want to board from a more convenient station, you now have a wider window to make that switch. The change can be done both online and offline, making the process accessible for all passengers.

How It Reflects in Reservation Charts

Boarding point changes will now appear in the second reservation chart.
  • The first chart is prepared around 4 hours before departure.
  • The second chart is updated closer to departure, reflecting any last-minute changes.
To use this facility, passengers must submit their request before the second chart is finalized.

Key Conditions to Remember

  • Applicable only for confirmed and RAC tickets
  • Not available for waiting list tickets
  • Boarding point can be changed only once
  • Request must be made before chart preparation

How to Change Your Boarding Station

The process is simple and user-friendly:
  • Log in to the IRCTC website or app
  • Go to My Account → My Transactions
  • Open Booked Ticket History
  • Select your ticket and click Change Boarding Point
  • Choose your preferred station and confirm

Why This Matters

This update is a big step towards making train travel more passenger-friendly. It reduces stress, saves time, and gives travelers the freedom to adapt plans without losing their journey.

With this move, Indian Railways continues to simplify travel, making it smarter, smoother, and far more convenient.
