India’s first Vande Bharat Sleeper train is all set to roll out in September 2025, according to Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw . Speaking at a public event in Gujarat on Sunday (August 3), he confirmed that the long-anticipated launch will take place in just over a month. This sleeper version of the popular semi-high-speed Vande Bharat fleet marks a new chapter in long-distance rail travel for the country.
The sleeper service is designed to enhance passenger comfort, speed, and efficiency—especially for overnight journeys. Ashwini Vaishnaw added that it would complement existing high-speed trains like Namo Bharat and Amrit Bharat, aligning with the government’s broader railway modernisation goals.
Manufactured by Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML), the train uses advanced coach technology from the Integral Coach Factory (ICF). It will include 16 coaches, offering AC First Class, AC 2-Tier, and AC 3-Tier options. The train is expected to reach a top speed of 180 km/h, making it one of the fastest sleeper trains in the country.
