LPG cylinders have become a major talking point across the country. Although the government has assured that there is no shortage of domestic LPG cylinders, market trends suggest people are already exploring alternatives.

With uncertainty around LPG availability, many families are turning to quicker cooking options. Induction cooktops and electric appliances are seeing rising demand as households look for ways to reduce gas usage. This shift is gradually transforming how people prepare their daily meals.

Instant and Ready-to-Cook Foods in High Demand

One of the biggest beneficiaries of this situation is the instant food segment. Products like ready-to-cook meals, instant food packs, and frozen snacks are witnessing a sharp rise in sales. Retailers and quick-commerce platforms report that demand for these items has increased by nearly 20 percent month-on-month.

Retailers Notice Growing Demand

Retail stores are clearly witnessing this trend. According to Karan Ahuja, spokesperson for premium grocery retailer Le Marche, sales in these categories have increased by 10–12 percent. While retailers believe the spike could be temporary, they are increasing stock levels to ensure customers can easily find these products.

Companies Step Up Promotions

Food companies are also reacting quickly to the rising demand. Several brands have intensified promotions to attract customers looking for convenient cooking solutions. For instance, Mother Dairy has restarted advertising its frozen vegetables, highlighting their quick preparation benefits.

Quick-Commerce Platforms Join the Trend

Delivery platforms are also adapting to the changing demand. Swiggy Instamart is actively promoting induction-compatible cookware, encouraging households to adopt electric cooking methods that reduce dependency on LPG cylinders.

Supply Prioritised but Concerns Remain

On March 5, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas announced steps to prioritise domestic gas supply. Despite these assurances, reports from several cities indicate supply concerns and price increases of up to 30 percent in some areas.

Whether temporary or long-term, the LPG situation is clearly influencing consumer behaviour. From induction cooktops to ready-to-cook meals, households are exploring faster and more flexible cooking solutions while waiting for the supply situation to stabilise.
