As reported by NDTV, " Vishal Chauhan allegedly initiated the attack on Raja with a machete, striking him repeatedly as he attempted to defend himself." Authorities later traced the weapon to a shop near Guwahati’s railway station, confirming it was bought shortly before the incident.
The shocking murder took place while Raja was on his honeymoon in Meghalaya with his wife Sonam. As per Meghalaya Police, "Sonam and four others murdered Raja during their honeymoon in Meghalaya." Raja's body was later discovered in a deep gorge near the scenic Weisawdong Falls, while a search for Sonam continued.

The footage was unknowingly recorded by YouTuber Devender Singh , who had captured the couple during their trip in Meghalaya. Previously, the head of the Meghalaya Special Investigation Team (SIT), Herbert Pyniaid Kharkongor, shared that "according to the post-mortem report , the deceased Raja Raghuvanshi sustained two head injuries." This aligns with the brutal nature of the assault described in the investigation.
Raja and Sonam, both residents of Indore in Madhya Pradesh, had gone missing shortly after arriving in Meghalaya for their honeymoon.
