The Indian government is preparing to roll out PAN 2.0 next year, aiming to revolutionise tax-related services with a single, unified digital platform. Approved by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) with a budget allocation of ₹1,435 crore, the project will be developed and operated by IT major LTIMindtree.

Currently, services linked to PAN (Permanent Account Number) and TAN (Tax Deduction and Collection Account Number) are spread across multiple platforms such as the Income Tax e-Filing portal, UTIITSL, and Protean (formerly NSDL). Once PAN 2.0 goes live, these will be merged into one centralised interface, simplifying access for citizens and reducing paperwork.

The system promises paperless processing, faster e-PAN issuance, better data security, and improved grievance redressal. Here’s a breakdown of the five most important changes coming with PAN 2.0 and how they will affect you.

1. All PAN and TAN Services on One Platform

Instead of juggling between multiple websites, users will be able to apply for a PAN, make corrections, link Aadhaar, and validate details—all from a single, easy-to-use portal.

2. No Reapplication for Existing PAN Holders

If you already own a PAN card, there is no need to apply for a new one. Your current number remains valid and fully functional under PAN 2.0.

3. Free PAN Corrections and Instant e-PAN Delivery

Updates or corrections to PAN details will be completely free. Once processed, your updated e-PAN will be emailed directly to your registered address.

4. Enhanced QR Code for Verification

The QR code printed on PAN cards will display live, updated information from the central database, making identity verification faster and more secure.

5. Step Towards a Unified Digital ID System

As part of the Digital India mission, PAN may evolve into a universal digital identity for accessing multiple government services online.

You can continue using your current PAN card without any changes for now. If your card lacks a QR code, you may request a reprint under the existing or upcoming system. Once PAN 2.0 is operational, updates, corrections, and verifications will be quicker, easier, and entirely digital.
