Indian Railways New Guidelines from March 1 Explained

Every single day, millions of people depend on trains to travel across the country. From office commuters and students to small business owners and families heading home, railway stations remain some of the busiest public spaces. While many passengers travel with confirmed reservations, a large number rely on general tickets for short distance or last minute journeys. In addition, countless people visit stations simply to see off or receive their loved ones, purchasing platform tickets for entry.

For a long time, passengers used the UTS app to book general and platform tickets directly from their smartphones. It reduced long queues and made ticket buying quicker. However, a major digital shift is now underway.

Starting March 1, the older system will be phased out and replaced with a new unified platform called RailOne. This transition will impact millions of users, especially daily commuters who regularly book unreserved tickets. The idea behind this change is to simplify the entire railway ticketing process and bring all services under one roof.

A major update in ticket booking rules

The railway ticket booking system is being streamlined to make travel more convenient. From March 1 onwards, passengers will need to use the RailOne app for all ticket related services. Whether you need a general ticket, a platform ticket, or even a reserved seat, everything will now be accessible through a single application.

Earlier, passengers often had to depend on separate systems for reservations and unreserved tickets. This sometimes caused confusion and inconvenience. With the new setup, there is no need to download multiple apps or switch between platforms. One app will manage all services.

This update is especially significant for those who book general tickets daily through their mobile phones. In recent times, many people have been forced to stand in long queues due to limited access to the previous app. The new platform is expected to reduce such hassles with a smoother and more user friendly interface.

One platform, multiple services

RailOne is not limited to just booking tickets. The app will also offer additional features that make travel planning easier. Passengers will be able to check live train running status, track train location in real time, and manage reservations directly from the same platform.

This integrated approach means you do not have to jump between different apps to check train timing, confirm bookings, or download tickets. Everything will be available in one place. For regular travelers, this can save valuable time and make the journey planning process far more efficient.

How to book a general ticket using the new app

The process of booking a general ticket on RailOne is simple and straightforward:

  • First, open the app and navigate to the Journey Planner section.
  • Next, choose the Unreserved or General ticket option.
  • Enter your departure station in the From field and your destination station in the To field.
  • If you are unsure about your exact location, switch on GPS and allow the app to auto detect the nearest station.
  • Select the appropriate train type such as Mail, Express, or Superfast based on your route.
  • Carefully review the journey details to avoid errors.
  • Proceed to payment and complete the transaction using the available payment options.

Once the payment is successful, your ticket will instantly appear in the My Tickets section. You can show it directly from your phone during ticket checks or download a PDF copy for convenience.

This digital transformation marks an important step toward modernizing railway services. As millions continue to rely on trains every day, adapting to this new system will soon become a part of routine travel. With everything available in one app, railway journeys are set to become smoother and more organized for passengers across the country.
