India is celebrating its 77th Republic Day today with grandeur, symbolism and a strong message of unity and strength at Kartavya Path in New Delhi. President Droupadi Murmu is presiding over the national celebrations, while European Council President Antonio Costa and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen grace the occasion as chief guests, highlighting India’s deepening global partnerships.

This year’s parade blends history, culture, military power and people’s participation, making it one of the most visually rich and meaningful Republic Day ceremonies in recent years.

1 . Kartavya Path Transformed For A Historic Occasion



The ceremonial boulevard from Rashtrapati Bhavan to the National War Memorial has been elaborately decorated to reflect India’s journey from colonial rule to a confident, modern republic. A special narrative runs through the celebrations this year the 150-year legacy of the national song ‘Vande Mataram’, which continues to inspire patriotism and unity across generations.

The Defence Ministry said the parade will highlight India’s unprecedented development, robust defence capabilities, cultural diversity and the participation of citizens from every walk of life.

3. A Solemn Beginning At The National War Memorial

The Republic Day parade began at 10.30 am with Prime Minister Narendra Modi visiting the National War Memorial, where he led the nation in paying homage to fallen soldiers by laying a wreath. The gesture set a solemn and respectful tone for the day’s celebrations.

Following the tribute, the Prime Minister, President and other dignitaries moved to the saluting dais at Kartavya Path to witness the parade, which is scheduled to run for around 90 minutes.


4 .Presidential Procession And Ceremonial Honours

President Murmu arrived in the traditional buggy, accompanied by the two chief guests and escorted by the President’s Bodyguard, the senior-most regiment of the Indian Army . As per tradition, the national flag was unfurled, followed by the national anthem and a 21-gun salute.

The salute was fired using 105 mm light field guns, an indigenously developed artillery system, and presented by the 1721 Ceremonial Battery of the 172 Field Regiment, reinforcing India’s emphasis on self-reliance in defence.

5. Unity In Diversity Through Culture And Music

Culture took centre stage with over 100 artists performing to the theme ‘Vividata Mein Ekta – Unity in Diversity’. The grand musical and dance presentation showcased India’s many traditions, languages and art forms, offering a vibrant snapshot of the country’s cultural richness.


6. Parade Command Reflects Military Legacy

The parade is being commanded by Lieutenant General Bhavnish Kumar, General Officer Commanding, Delhi, a second-generation army officer. Assisting him as Parade Second-in-Command is Major General Navraj Dhillon, Chief of Staff, HQ Delhi, a third-generation officer a powerful reminder of the Indian Army’s enduring legacy across generations.

7. Gallantry Award Winners Honoured

One of the most moving segments of the parade featured recipients of India’s highest gallantry awards. Among them were Param Vir Chakra winners Subedar Major (Honorary Captain) Yogendra Singh Yadav (retd) and Subedar Major Sanjay Kumar, along with Ashoka Chakra awardees Major General CA Pithawalia (retd) and Colonel D Sreeram Kumar.

Their presence drew loud applause as symbols of courage, sacrifice and service to the nation.

8. European Union Contingent Adds Global Dimension

Strengthening the international flavour of the parade, the European Union contingent marched with four flag bearers on three gypsies. The contingent carried the flags of the European Union, European Union Military Staff, EU Naval Force Atalanta, and EU Naval Force Aspides, reflecting growing strategic cooperation between India and the EU.

9. First-Ever Phased Battle Array On Display

A major highlight this year is the first-ever display of the Indian Army’s phased battle array, offering a realistic glimpse into modern warfare preparedness. The reconnaissance element is led by the 61 Cavalry in active combat uniform.

Rolling in next is the high mobility reconnaissance vehicle, India’s first indigenously designed armoured light specialist vehicle, showcasing advances in domestic defence manufacturing.


10. Indigenous Air Power Takes To The Skies

Adding a dramatic aerial dimension, the Dhruv Advanced Light Helicopter and its armed variant, Rudra, provided overhead support during the parade. Their presence underscored India’s growing air power and self-reliance in military aviation.

From the historic resonance of ‘Vande Mataram’ to cutting-edge defence capabilities and strong international participation, Republic Day 2026 at Kartavya Path stands as a powerful celebration of India’s unity, resilience and rising global stature.
