High-Level Talks on Bilateral Cooperation

During her visit, Amarasuriya will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar to discuss bilateral issues. The focus areas include trade, investment, education, and technological collaboration. These discussions aim to build on India’s 'Neighbourhood First' policy and the 'MAHASAGAR Vision', India’s new framework for regional cooperation and growth in the Global South. The Ministry of External Affairs stated the visit would further deepen the long-standing and multi-dimensional partnership between the two neighbouring countries.

Focus on Education and Technology Partnerships

As Sri Lanka’s Education Minister as well, Amarasuriya is scheduled to visit IIT Delhi and NITI Aayog. The goal is to explore partnerships in academic exchange, research, innovation, and digital transformation. India’s robust educational and tech landscape offers valuable opportunities for Sri Lanka, especially in skilling and digital governance. Amarasuriya will also reconnect with her roots by visiting her alma mater, Hindu College, University of Delhi, an emotional and symbolic stop during her visit.

Engaging the Business Community

To strengthen economic ties, the Sri Lankan Prime Minister will participate in a business networking event hosted by Indian industry bodies. Discussions will revolve around increasing trade, investment, and exploring opportunities in key sectors like tourism, renewable energy, and manufacturing. The aim is to attract Indian investors to Sri Lanka and boost commercial links post-pandemic. This complements the broader effort to position the island nation as a key partner in India’s regional economic outreach.

Public Address and Policy Engagements

Prime Minister Amarasuriya is also set to deliver the keynote speech at the NDTV World Summit, where she is expected to touch on regional cooperation, climate action, and inclusive development.

With her experience as an educator and policymaker, she is likely to highlight the importance of knowledge partnerships in global diplomacy. Her engagements in India reflect a forward-looking vision focused on collaboration beyond diplomacy, in innovation, education, and shared prosperity.
