TN sends 950 tons of humanitarian aid to SL


Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin on Saturday flagged off a major humanitarian aid consignment for Sri Lanka, which is reeling from the devastation of Cyclone "Ditwah."

The relief materials, weighing 950 tons, were sent on two Indian Navy ships from Chennai and Thoothukudi ports, according to IANS.

This is one of the largest single aid shipments by Tamil Nadu to an international disaster zone.

From the Chennai port, CM Stalin flagged off a naval ship with essential items including 300 tons of sugar, 300 tons of dal, 25 tons of milk powder, 5,000 dhotis and sarees each, along with 10,000 towels and blankets.

The second ship left from the Thoothukudi port carrying another 150 tons each of sugar and dal.


Gesture of solidarity with Sri Lanka


In a symbolic act of solidarity, CM Stalin handed over a sample relief kit to Sri Lanka's Deputy High Commissioner Ganesanathan Geathiswaran.

The gesture was appreciated by Geathiswaran, who thanked Tamil Nadu for its prompt and generous support.

Senior officials and dignitaries from both ports were present at the flag-off events, highlighting the operation's significance.


Relief effort reflects India-Tamil Nadu's ties with Sri Lanka


The Tamil Nadu government said that the relief effort is a testament to India's and the state's long-standing relationship with Sri Lanka. It also reiterates their commitment to providing timely humanitarian assistance during crises.

With these shipments, Tamil Nadu aims to expedite relief efforts in Sri Lanka as it undertakes large-scale recovery and rehabilitation after Cyclone Ditwah's devastating impact.
