The accident took place on Thursday night in the Badgau area of Purchaudi-7. The bus was travelling uphill when it suddenly went out of control. According to the Armed Police Force, a burst pressure pipe is believed to have caused the heavily loaded bus to veer off the road and plunge into the gorge.

Rescue efforts began immediately, with local villagers, Nepal Police, and the Armed Police Force working together through the night. Eight passengers lost their lives at the scene, while five others died later during treatment at Dadeldhura Hospital. Reports from the Kathmandu Post confirmed that a woman was among those killed.

Those injured in the crash were rushed to hospitals in Baitadi and Dadeldhura districts. Medical teams are continuing treatment, with doctors making efforts to stabilise patients who remain in critical condition.

Officials said 34 passengers were injured in the accident, and warned that the death toll could rise as several victims are still battling serious injuries. Rescue teams used all available resources to carry out relief operations, which continued overnight.

The tragic incident has left the border region in shock, including nearby areas of Uttarakhand’s Pithoragarh district. Authorities have once again stressed the importance of strict safety inspections for passenger buses operating in mountainous areas to avoid such devastating accidents.
