Monsoon Alert: Storms, Rain Likely Across 13 States as Dark Clouds Gather
India is witnessing a sharp weather divide. While northern and central regions are sweltering under an intense heatwave, the northeastern states are battling heavy rain and storm threats, making conditions difficult across the country.
North & Central India Brace for Peak Heat
The plains are heating up faster than usual this season. According to the India Meteorological Department, temperatures across Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh are likely to hover between 40°C and 45°C.
Delhi has entered a critical phase, with a heatwave alert in effect from April 24. Temperatures are expected to cross 42°C, with hot conditions set to continue for the next 4-5 days. Dry weather and steady winds will keep the discomfort levels high.
Northeast on High Alert for Rain & Storms
In contrast, the northeastern belt is facing unstable weather. Assam, Meghalaya, and Arunachal Pradesh are under a heavy rainfall alert until April 26.
Thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds ranging between 50-70 km/h are likely. States like Nagaland, Mizoram, and Tripura may also witness isolated hailstorms, adding to the risk of damage and disruption.
Rain to Offer Temporary Relief
A shift in weather patterns could bring some respite toward the weekend.
Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand are expected to receive light to moderate rain along with thunderstorms between April 25 and 28. Meanwhile, Delhi, Punjab, and Haryana may see scattered showers during the same period, which could slightly ease the heat after its peak.
Wind & Dust Storm Activity Likely
As the weather transitions, strong surface winds and dust storms may sweep across parts of the plains. Wind speeds of 30-40 km/h are expected, especially in Delhi and nearby regions.
Wider Rainfall Impact Across East India
Apart from the northeast, states like Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, and Odisha may also experience thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds in the coming days.
Delhi’s Weather Snapshot
The capital is already experiencing temperatures above 40°C, with clear skies dominating the forecast for now. Winds between 15-25 km/h will offer little relief. However, light rain is expected later in the week, which could bring a brief dip in temperatures.
The next few days will be marked by extremes, scorching heat in the north and central regions, and intense rain and storms in the northeast, making it a challenging stretch of weather across India.
