An actor must be malleable to pull off any kind of role: Thejaswini Sharma
At a time when actors are increasingly pushed into boxes, Thejaswini Sharma is resisting the mould. With an upcoming role as a police officer in a crime thriller , she finds herself in a phase where range — not comfort — is driving her choices. “I want to prove I can take on versatile roles. But, you need to be at the right place at the right time,” she says, pointing out that perception often limits access. “No one is at home watching what I can do. I need opportunities to show it,” she states.

Referencing actors like Rani Mukerji , she emphasises that range is key to longevity. “Her roles in Mardaani and Mrs Chatterjee vs Norway are completely different. That’s what an artiste is — malleable.” Thejaswini says she wants to take on strong roles without limiting herself. “I don’t want to set boundaries. For me, it’s about the team that I’m going to work with. If I can visualise the story while listening to it, that’s my sign," she says.
Speaking about her upcoming role, she says, “I’ve always wanted to play a cop. In this film, my role is not just about solving a case—the character has layers.” As for prep, she says, “There’s a certain way an officer carries themselves. So I watched a few films of Malashree ma’am to understand her mannerisms.”
