Newspoint

In the month of April of the financial year 2026, banks across the country will be closed for several days due to festivals, public events, and regular weekly holidays. However, online transactions will not be affected. Therefore, customers are advised to read this report in detail before planning their banking transactions.

The month of April begins with a bank holiday. Since the financial year ends on April 1st, most banks are closed. On this day, banks conduct their annual audit and finalize accounts; as a result, there are no customer transactions at branches. Additionally, there will be several holidays in April due to various festivals. On April 2nd, banks in Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram will be closed for 'Maundy Thursday'. Additionally, on April 3rd, banks will be closed in most cities on the occasion of 'Good Friday'.

On April 14, banks will be closed in many parts of the country on account of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Jayanti, Baisakhi, and Tamil New Year. On April 15, select cities will observe a holiday on account of Bengali New Year, Bohag Bihu, Vishu, and Himachal Day. On April 16, Guwahati will observe a holiday on account of Bohag Bihu. Furthermore, on April 20, banks will be closed in Bengaluru and some other cities on account of Basava Jayanti and Akshaya Tritiya. On April 21, banks will remain closed on account of Garia Puja.

In addition to these holidays, banks will also be closed due to regular weekly holidays. Sundays—April 5, 12, 19, and 26—will be holidays, while the second and fourth Saturdays—April 11 and 25, respectively—will also be holidays. Due to this entire holiday schedule, banking operations at physical bank branches are expected to be suspended for several days in April. However, to the relief of customers, services like internet banking, mobile banking, and UPI will continue to function, allowing transactions like money transfers and bill payments to be completed without interruption. Considering the upcoming holidays, customers should plan their banking transactions—such as depositing checks, withdrawing cash, or completing other important banking tasks—in advance to avoid any last-minute hassles.
