In chapter 2 of Bhagavad Gita, Lord Krishna advices Arjuna:

आपूर्यमाणम् अचलप्रतिष्ठं
समुद्रमापः प्रविशन्ति यद्वत्।
तद्वत्कामा यं प्रविशन्ति सर्वे
स शान्तिमाप्नोति न कामकामी॥

Āpūryamāṇam acala-pratiṣṭhaṁ
Āpūryamāṇam acala-pratiṣṭhaṁ
Tadvat kāmā yaṁ praviśanti sarve
Sa śāntim āpnoti na kāma-kāmī.”

Translation: “Just as the ocean remains ever full and steady though countless rivers flow into it, similarly, the person into whom all desires enter without disturbance attains peace, not the one who constantly longs for desires.”

Lord Krishna lit a candle of light in the heart of Arjuna through these words: ”Be steadfast in yoga, O Dhananjaya. Perform your actions, abandoning attachment. Even in success or failure, stay balanced- that evenness is yoga itself.”

The most important step that we should take, after understanding the two above-mentioned shlokas of Lord Krishna, is to become non-reactive. When senses come into contact with sense objects, good or bad sensations will arise in our mind and body. The key is to not react to these feelings. Become the observer. What are the thoughts and emotions that are running through your mind. Observe it. Realise the ultimate truth of impermanence. Whatever that arises will pass away. This is a universal law. But, if you react to those thoughts and feelings, they will become multiplied. Non-reactivity is a key aid for us in our journey towards freedom. Meditation is the best technique that you can use to develop this quality.

Secondly, we can attain even-mindedness by implementing Karma Yoga in our lives. Fulfil all your duties. Nevertheless, don’t waste your energy thinking about the results. Doing this will break your bondages to worldly attachments. Furthermore, each action that you will be taking will transform into an act of deep inner purification.

Thirdly, dedicate your deeds to Bhagwan Krishna. Consider the fulfilment of your duties as your offerings to the Supreme. This simple mindset shift will gradually take you to the doorsteps of Moksha.
