What to Do During Chaitra Navratri
On the first day, perform the *Kalash Sthapana* (installation of the ritual pot) at an auspicious time (*Shubh Muhurat*). Light an *Akhand Jyot* (eternal flame) to worship Goddess Durga.
Recite the *Vrat Katha* (fasting story) and the *Durga Chalisa* with the appropriate rituals. Offer her favorite flowers and *Bhog* (sacred food).

Chant the mantras dedicated to Goddess Durga, and engage in acts of charity by donating food, money, and essentials.
Consume *Sattvic* (pure) food, maintain cleanliness, and create a peaceful environment at home.
Perform *Kanya Pujan* (worship of young girls) on *Maha Ashtami* or *Maha Navami*.


Prohibited Actions During Chaitra Navratri

What Not to Do During Chaitra Navratri


Avoid consuming *Tamasic* (heavy) foods and refrain from arguments or negative thoughts about others. Wearing black clothing is discouraged.
It is considered inauspicious to cut hair, shave, or trim nails during this period. If fasting, do not eat wheat, rice, lentils, or regular salt.
Keep your home and worship space clean, and show respect to women, young girls, and the elderly. Those fasting should also avoid sleeping during the day.

The Pratipada Tithi (first day) of the Shukla Paksha in Chaitra begins on March 19, 2026, until 06:52 AM, concluding on March 20, 2026, at 04:52 AM.
The Ghatasthapana Muhurat (pot installation time) is from 06:52 AM to 07:46 AM, with the Abhijit Muhurat occurring from 12:04 PM to 12:52 PM.
