Essential Visitor Guide to Akshardham Temple in Delhi
The Akshardham Temple, also referred to as the Swaminarayan Temple, is situated in Delhi, the capital of India. Following the recent introduction of the *Tapomurti* (penance idol) of Shri Neelkanth Maharaj, the temple has seen a surge in visitors eager to partake in *darshan* (worship). This remarkable statue towers at 108 feet, attracting devotees from both India and abroad. The influx of visitors has led to significant traffic congestion in the surrounding areas.
Many attendees are often unaware of the temple's regulations, resulting in some leaving without the chance to pray. Therefore, it is crucial to understand the rules before your visit to avoid disappointment.
Temple Entry and Regulations
**Entry Hours and Restrictions**
The Akshardham Temple opens at 10:00 AM and spans 100 acres. While the temple typically remains open until 8:00 PM or 8:30 PM, the last entry is strictly at 6:30 PM. Visitors must enter the temple complex before this time to ensure they can participate in the worship activities.
Once inside, devotees can offer prayers to Lord Swaminarayan. The temple also features food and beverage stalls. However, all personal items, including mobile phones, handbags, toys, umbrellas, food, Bluetooth devices, and smartwatches, must be stored in the cloakroom before entry. This service is complimentary, and entry to the temple complex is free. Visitors are allowed to bring only a water bottle, cash, and baby food inside.
Many guests visit primarily for the laser show, but some leave disappointed due to a lack of awareness regarding the schedule. The laser show starts at 7:15 PM and lasts for about 24 minutes. Tickets are priced around ₹110 for adults and ₹80 for children.
To attend the laser show, ensure you enter the temple grounds before 6:30 PM. Additionally, an exhibition is available from 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM. The *Aarti* (evening prayer) occurs at 6:30 PM, and the *Abhishek Pujan Darshan* is offered from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM for a fee of ₹50.
