Exclusive - Anupamaa fame Sagar Parekh keen to explore comedy shows after intense and layered roles: says 'Would Love To Surprise Fans'
Actor Sagar Parekh has established an identity for himself in the industry with performances that are often laden with emotion and sincerity. People have always praised him for playing characters that are deep, emotional and connect with audiences. Viewers are used to seeing him in serious stories, but now the actor says he would love to try a completely different type of story: a full-fledged comedy show.

When asked about the possibility of doing a comedy show, Sagar said that the idea really excites him. “I would love to explore that,” he said, adding that television actors often get small comic moments even in dramatic shows. However, the opportunity to headline an entire comedy series would be something new and refreshing for him.
“In fact, while you do TV, you do get a few scenes that are comedy. The audience has mostly seen me in intense and emotional roles so far. But as an actor, it's very exciting to step into something that is completely different,” Parekh explained.
The actor also considered how well his career had already traversed platforms and formats. Apart from television dramas, he stepped into the world of reality television through the dance show Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa, an experience he describes as unforgettable.
“My journey has already taken me through different kinds of platforms and formats, from television to reality shows like Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa, where I stepped into a dance reality stage for the first time. I think that experience itself was phenomenal because I had never danced professionally before. I had never even stepped on the stage of a reality show before,” he shared.
Parekh added that he is open to surprising his fans if the right opportunity comes along. “So yes, I think if a good comedy script comes my way or a good character comes my way, I would love, love to surprise my fans with that side of me,” he said.
When asked whether he would currently prefer a serious romantic drama or a light-hearted comedy series, the actor explained that he doesn’t like to compare genres. “I don't judge it like that. I think both have their own charm,” he said.
At the same time, he admitted that comedy currently feels like an exciting challenge. “But right now, a light-hearted comedy series would be quite exciting because it would show a completely different side of me to the audience, which I have been craving with every new show that I do,” Parekh noted.
The actor also looked back at the popularity of Kaisi Yeh Yaariaan, which later expanded into the digital space. “Having said that, I think romantic dramas are something I naturally connect with as well. When Kaisi Yeh Yaariaan later became a web series, it gave me a whole new exposure to digital space, and it was also one of the most-watched series when it released on platforms like Voot and Jiocinema,” he said.
Such experiences, Parekh believes, have encouraged him to keep experimenting with different genres and mediums as his journey in the entertainment industry continues to evolve.
