Father’s Day is a heartfelt celebration dedicated to honouring the love, sacrifice and guidance of fathers and father figures. It’s that one day in the year when we pause to appreciate the unwavering presence of the men who shape our lives. In 2025, this special day will be celebrated on Sunday, June 15.

When is Father’s Day 2025 ?

Father’s Day is typically observed on the third Sunday of June in many countries, including India — which means this year, it falls on June 15.
However, it’s not the same everywhere:

  • In Italy, Spain, Croatia and Portugal, it’s marked on March 19.
  • Thailand celebrates it on December 5, coinciding with the birthday of former King Bhumibol Adulyadej.
  • In Taiwan, it’s observed on August 8.

A Look Back: How Father’s Day Began

The idea of Father’s Day first took root in 1908 after a tragic mining accident in Fairmont, West Virginia claimed 362 lives. The first official push, however, came a year later in 1909 when Sonora Smart Dodd, inspired by Mother’s Day, wanted a day to celebrate her widowed father who raised six children alone. With widespread support from the community and church, the first Father’s Day was celebrated on June 19, 1910. Over time, it gained popularity and is now a global tradition.
