Floaters and Flashes in Eyes: Do you also see spots in your eyes? See a doctor immediately, or else...
Vision Problems Warning Signs: Most people only take eye problems seriously when they become a major issue. Let us tell you which ones should not be ignored.
What to do if you see spots in your eyes?
When Eye Floaters Are Dangerous: Do you see small spots, lines, or floating objects before your eyes? If yes, then it is not right to take it lightly. Generally, this problem is considered normal, but in some cases it can also be a sign of a serious disease. These spots visible in the eyes are called "eye floaters" in medical language. They often appear with aging or weak eyesight.
Appearance like small lines or blurry spots
Sometimes they appear as small lines or blurry spots that seem to float before the eyes. Usually, they fade with blinking, and the brain ignores them. However, a recent study by Radboud University Medical Center has warned about these floaters. According to this research, published in March 2026, if these spots appear continuously or suddenly increase, it could be a sign of a serious eye problem.
What problem warning?
This research, published in the Annals of Family Medicine, analyzed data from nearly 42,000 patients. It found that those who experienced frequent floaters, flashes of light, or both, in some cases developed a more serious condition called retinal detachment. Retinal detachment is a condition in which the inner layer of the eye begins to separate from its original position. This is a vital part of the eye that senses light. If left untreated, it can lead to vision loss.
Which people are at increased risk?
The study also revealed that people who see flashes along with floaters are at an increased risk. Although this risk is not present in everyone, it is not considered right to ignore it. According to the UK health service NHS, sometimes this problem is caused by "posterior vitreous detachment", which is usually harmless. In this, the gel-like structure present inside the eye changes and small clumps of collagen form. However, if these spots suddenly become more visible, persist or are accompanied by problems like flashes of light, shadows or blurred vision, then it is important to contact a doctor immediately.
