Good news for air travelers! Flights won't be halted even during the Iran crisis, and airlines are exploring new routes..
Amid the missile strikes on Iran, Indian airlines canceled more than 350 flights on Sunday. It was expected that the crisis in the Middle East would have a long-term impact on air travel, but now, instead of canceling flights, airlines have begun exploring new routes. Specifically, to maintain India's connectivity with Western countries, airlines have opted to quickly operate flights on new routes. Previously, flight cancellations stranded thousands of passengers.
Air India, the only Indian airline operating flights to the US, announced that all its flights from North America would operate as scheduled on Monday. Previously, Air India had canceled more than 50 international flights on Sunday. These flights originate from the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Israel, and Qatar, but were forced to cancel due to the escalating tensions between Iran and the US.
Several flights from Europe cancelled
The airline has announced that several of its flights scheduled to depart from Europe on March 2, 2026, will be cancelled. An airline spokesperson stated that these flights include Amritsar-Birmingham, Delhi-Zurich, Delhi-Copenhagen, and Birmingham-Delhi. The spokesperson added that all other flights from North America and Europe are being rescheduled via alternative routes. The new route will be determined based on airspace availability in the Middle East.
Flight delays may increase.
The spokesperson stated that flights from India to New York and Liberty International will be delayed for technical inspections at Rome's Fiumicino Airport, instead of taking a direct flight to New York. The airline said that flights to other routes will also be rescheduled.
