Kirstie Allsopp and Phil Spencer's relationship from dating rumours to 'never being apart'

Newspoint

Kirstie Allsopp and Phil Spencer are one of the UK’s beloved presenting duos - but what do we know about their relationship?

Best known for their work on property shows like Location, Location, Location and Love It Or List It, the pair have been working together for 26 years.

And it’s fair to say Kirstie and Phil have won over an army of fans thanks to their on-screen chemistry and sibling-like taunting. And although their relationship is platonic, the TV presenting pair have admitted in the past that they are often mistaken for husband and wife.

So, we’re taking a look inside Kirstie and Phil’s 26-year-long sweet friendship.

Kirstie and Phil met for the first time back in 2000 during a screen test for the first-ever series of the Channel 4 property show Location, Location, Location. And according to Kirstie, she made Phil “nervous” during their first encounter. She told TV Times magazine: "I made him nervous!

“I've never understood why people are scared of me. The question most people ask me is 'Is Phil as nice as he seems?'"

Phil also recalled meeting her at the screen test for the show. He said: "We were both working as property finders, me in south-west London and Kirstie in west London, when we were approached to make 'Location'...

“I thought she was great fun- and a bit mad! I had massive respect for her professional opinion from day one."

It’s clear that Kirstie and Phil mean a lot to each other as in 2025, Phil told The Telegraph: "I put Kirstie among the most important people in my life."

Kirstie also agreed: "We'll never be apart. I can't imagine a day when he and I go more than a month without seeing each other."

Nonetheless, despite their friendship, Phil didn’t actually go to Kirstie’s wedding to Ben Anderson in 2025. It was later revealed though that the wedding was so last-minute that important guests - such as Phil - were unable to attend.

She told MailOnline: “We had with us a small group of close friends and family who only heard about the wedding on Monday.”

Kirstie also explained that wedding details like the flowers, catering, lighting, and the order of service were all done by people she had worked with over the years, and who kept it all secret.

Viewers adored Phil and Kirstie's on-screen chemistry right from the start - which has inevitably led to the question of whether they were ever more than friends.

Kirstie said in 2007: "I still know Phil better than I know Ben because Phil and I have spent more time together. We’ll never be apart. I can’t imagine a day when he and I go more than a month without seeing each other."

She also addressed claims that she and Phil had kissed and made a blunt admission about how she viewed her co-star. She told the Express: “I love Phil but I'm not attracted to him and I know he'd say the same about me. A lot of people think we've had the odd sneaky snog, which just isn't true."

Meanwhile, Phil previously said about the romance rumours: “The press were always asking, are we are couple, were we going to get married – it was all good fun. People weren’t used to seeing presenters having platonic, affectionate relationships on TV."
