Simple Ways to Protect Greens from Extreme Summer Heat


Water at the right time

Always water plants early in the morning or in the evening. Avoid watering during the afternoon heat as it can stress the roots.

Provide shade during heatwaves

If temperatures rise close to 45°C, place your plants under a shade net or cover them with a light cloth to protect the leaves from scorching sunlight.


Keep the soil slightly moist

Leafy greens prefer moist soil. Make sure the soil doesn’t dry out completely, especially during very hot days.

Use mulching

Add a layer of dry leaves, straw, or grass on top of the soil. This helps retain moisture and keeps the roots cool.

Avoid hot surfaces

Do not place pots directly on heated terraces or concrete floors. Keeping them on a stand or wooden plank helps reduce heat stress.

Feed plants with organic manure

Add vermicompost or cow dung manure every 10–15 days to keep the plants healthy and encourage faster leaf growth.

Remove dry or yellow leaves
