Love Actually's Martine McCutcheon recreates iconic airport scene in real-life

Martine McCutcheon sported a snug jumper and maroon jacket as she joined a special welcoming committee at London's Stansted Airport. The Love Actually star was on hand to give out warm festive beverages as she watched reunions unfold as friends and family arrived from all over the world. She was also accompanied by a gospel choir belting out heartening carols in the arrivals hall.

The touching initiative was launched by Costa Coffee to spread festive joy and celebrate moments of connection during the holiday season. A survey of 5,000 adults conducted by the brand found nearly half (47%) said spending time with loved ones lifts their spirits.

Meanwhile, a whopping nine in 10 (86%) agreed that the holidays are an ideal opportunity to catch up with those they hold dear.

Nearly half (49%) travel to visit loved ones, covering an average of 164 miles, with 82% travelling by car, while others opt for trains (23%) or planes (14%).

Speaking about the moment, Martine McCutcheon said: "I've loved spreading a little festive cheer today. Watching people light up the moment they see someone they've missed is truly magical.

"There's a real sense of anticipation and gratitude in those first reunions that feels so unique to this time of year. It's been a joy to witness those memories being made right in front of us."

The research revealed that going on winter walks (39%), meeting in coffee shops (27%), and watching festive films together (40%) were the top ways people enjoyed spending time together.

Over the Christmas season, watching classic films like Home Alone, Elf, and Love Actually forms part of annual traditions.

In general, more than six in 10 of those surveyed via OnePoll.com agreed that Christmas is more about connection than celebration.

A Costa Coffee spokesperson added: "The joy of the season is in those first moments of reunion, when the people we've missed most finally come together.

“Whether it’s a shared smile at arrivals or a quiet coffee together, these connections create lasting memories.

“Being there to support these moments, and the holiday rituals that come with them, however big or small, is what makes this time of year so special.”
