In March, the Central Government hiked the price of a 14.2-kilogram domestic LPG cylinder by ₹60. However, there have been no further price revisions since then, resulting in domestic LPG prices remaining stable across the country.

Meanwhile, the price of a 19-kilogram commercial LPG cylinder was first hiked by ₹144 in March, followed by another increase of approximately ₹200 on April 1. This dual price hike has inflicted significant losses upon restaurants, eateries, and other businesses, as they rely heavily on cooking fuel for their daily operations.

These price increases have occurred in the wake of the conflict that erupted in Iran on February 28. Tensions between the US and Iran led to a blockade in the Strait of Hormuz. As this is a major shipping route for energy supplies, the blockade has disrupted oil shipments and driven up fuel prices.
