Actress Mallika Sukumaran has come out strongly against the AMMA organization for hosting a party for film festival delegates amid the issues happening around the actress's assault verdict.

In a Facebook note, Prithviraj Sukumaran's mother said the celebration should not have happened at this time. According to her, the situation demanded silence, support, and sensitivity, not celebration.

Mallika Sukumaran opens upSpeaking openly, Mallika said, “This is the truth. The justice system and society called her a survivor.” She spoke about the pain of a woman who lived for eight years as a widow, finding strength within herself. Mallika pointed out that only recently did the survivor say in her own words, “I am a survivor,” and openly write about her mental pain using her own name.

Questions to a woman-led bodyMallika questioned the stance of the women-led organization that had earlier promised unity. “What did this organization, which is run by women, show the world?” she asked. She further said, “Do they not value even the tears of a fellow colleague who stands beside them?” Her words reflected deep disappointment and concern.

Mallika Sukumaran on conducting a partyThe veteran actress criticized the idea that the party was meant to rewrite the history of AMMA. “So, they want to give a party to film festival delegates to rewrite AMMA’s history. Is this what the organization’s idea of charity is?” she asked. Mallika also referred to reports that the event had ministerial approval and a cleared budget. “Let it be anything. But did it have to be done today itself?” she questioned.

Mallika said at least the brothers within AMMA should have spoken up. “They should have told them to keep their colleagues close, not push away those who speak up, and to make sure not to lose their inner worth,” she said. Ending her statement, she reminded everyone that times have changed. “Times have changed. The story has changed,” she said, adding, “What is built is built by women, and what is destroyed is also destroyed by women.”
