'Mohiniyattam' trailer: 'Bharathanatyam' sequel packed with Mohanlal's 'Drishyam' references, Set for April release
The Saiju Kurup starrer comedy entertainer 'Bharathanatyam' hit theatres with low buzz but later gained strong traction through word of mouth. As its sequel Mohiniyattam gears up for release, the makers are boosting the hype, and the recently released trailer has also created a strong buzz online.
Directed by Krishnadas Murali, 'Mohiniyattam' and the trailer has especially grabbed attention for its striking references to the iconic thriller 'Drishyam' in a quirky way.
Trailer packed with ‘Drishyam’ references The trailer opens on an intriguing note as Saiju Kurup’s character is seen narrating the premise of his brother’s film. The story revolves around the accidental death of an uninvited guest and this instantly draws parallels to Drishyam, directed by Jeethu Joseph and starring Mohanlal.
The trailer also hints at a troubled family and a police investigation. Vinay Forrt appears to play a cop, adding another layer to the narrative. Saiju Kurup, the head of the family, is seen sharing ideas with the family members on how to cover up the murder (or any other mystery element) in 'Drishyam' style.
Sequel promises a bigger narrative
'Bharathanatyam' - the first part focused on a middle-class family and the cracks in their carefully maintained image which is affected mainly when Saiju Kurup gets to know that his father had a second family. While 'Bharathanatyam' was all about covering up his father's second family, the second part - 'Mohiniyattam', seems to be taking things more seriously, yet with a tint of humor.
