Narasimha Jayanti 2026: In the Sanatan tradition, Lord Vishnu is revered as the Preserver of the Universe, who has, from time to time, assumed various avatars (incarnations) to annihilate unrighteousness and establish righteousness. Among these avatars, the form of Lord Narasimha is considered exceptionally wondrous and powerful, symbolizing strength, valor, and the protection of devotees. Lord Narasimha manifested on the *Chaturdashi* (fourteenth day) of the *Shukla Paksha* (waxing phase of the moon) during the month of *Vaishakh*; hence, Narasimha Jayanti is celebrated on this day. Religious belief holds that this avatar serves as a symbol demonstrating that whenever righteousness faces a crisis, the Divine manifests in any form necessary to protect His devotees and eradicate unrighteousness.

**The Mythological Tale of Hiranyakashipu and Prahlad**

Hiranyakashipu, the son of Sage Kashyapa, performed rigorous penance and obtained a boon from Lord Brahma stating that he could not be killed by any deity, human, or living creature. Swollen with arrogance due to this boon, he began to consider himself God and compelled his subjects to worship him. However, his son, Prahlad, was an ardent devotee of Lord Vishnu. Hiranyakashipu attempted to reason with and intimidate him on numerous occasions, yet Prahlad remained unwavering in his devotion. Several attempts were made to kill him—including the attempt to have him sit in a fire alongside Holika—but each time, by the grace of the Lord, he emerged unharmed. Eventually, enraged, Hiranyakashipu bound Prahlada to a pillar and demanded to know where his God was. Just as he attempted to strike Prahlada down, Lord Narasimha emerged from that very pillar and—at twilight, neither inside the house nor outside—slayed him using His divine claws.
