NCW sends notices to Prem, Nora, Sanjay Dutt over 'Sarse' song controversy
Bengaluru: The song 'Sarse Ninna Seraga Sarse' from the movie 'KD', directed by Jogi Prem and starring Dhruva Sarja, has landed in a major controversy following its release.
The song was released as a pan-India track, and the lyrics of the Hindi version, 'Sarke Chunariya Teri Sarke', have drawn severe objections. Complaints have already been filed with the CBFC and the cyber police regarding the song. The song was also discussed in the Lok Sabha, leading to the deletion of the Hindi version.
Meanwhile, the National Commission for Women (NCW) has issued notices to director Prem and others, directing them to appear for a hearing. The NCW took suo motu cognizance of the matter based on media reports, exercising powers granted under the NCW Act, 1990.
The notice states that the visuals and lyrics in the song are deemed to have a negative impact on society, and this objection is being treated seriously. The commission issued the notices alleging that the song violates provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita regarding public morality, the transmission of offensive content online, and POCSO Act regulations concerning sexual provocation and objectionable visuals.
The NCW has summoned actress Nora Fatehi and actor Sanjay Dutt, who featured in the song, along with lyricist Raqueeb Alam (who wrote the Hindi version), producer Venkat K. Narayana, and director Prem for the inquiry.
The individuals have been directed to appear before the commission with relevant documents on March 24 at 12:30 pm. The notice warned of strict action in case of failure to appear. Director Prem has already apologized for the controversy and stated that the song would be rewritten. However, Nora Fatehi has distanced herself from the controversy in her statements.
