Petrol-Diesel Price Today: Amidst rising global crude oil prices, while private companies are increasing fuel rates on one hand, state-run companies have remained largely stable on the other. This offers relief to the general public across the country. Just last week, Shell India implemented a massive hike of ₹7.41 per liter in petrol prices and ₹25.01 per liter in diesel prices—a move that reflects the pressure companies are facing due to rising input costs.

However, public sector companies have adopted a more balanced approach. Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) recently hiked the price of its premium XP100 petrol by ₹11 per liter, pushing its price past the ₹160 mark. The price of its premium diesel, XtraGreen, was also raised to ₹92.99 per liter.

Government Takes a Major Step

It is worth noting that, in an effort to provide relief to both consumers and state-run oil companies, the Central Government intervened last month by cutting the excise duty on regular petrol by ₹3 per liter and completely eliminating it on diesel. This government initiative has helped Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) absorb a portion of the shock caused by global price fluctuations and maintain relatively stable base fuel rates, even though their profit margins remain under pressure.

Fuel prices across India remained stable on April 7, despite continued volatility in the global crude market and disruptions affecting specific shipping routes. These unchanged rates come at a time when petrol and diesel prices are being closely monitored ahead of upcoming state elections.
