'Queen 2': Kangana Ranaut starrer to start filming in April
Kangana Ranaut and director Vikas Bahl are gearing up to start filming for Queen 2 by the end of April, reported Mid-Day.
The sequel will not be a direct continuation of the 2014 hit but will explore similar themes of self-discovery and independence.
In this new installment, Ranaut's character Rani will travel across various cities in India on a journey of self-realization.
'In 'Queen 2,' Kangana's Rani will be a city girl'
A source revealed to Mid-Day, "In Queen 2, Kangana's Rani will be a city girl, unlike the small-town girl in the original."
"She will be smart, strong, and quirky, but a plot point will send her on the road of self-discovery."
"It will show how she conquers life through her individuality, self-realisation, and courage."
"While the first one saw her travelling to Paris and Amsterdam alone, this journey will take her across cities in India."
New supporting cast to join Ranaut
Queen 2 will not feature any of the original cast members. Bahl has reportedly chosen several theater actors for supporting roles in this sequel.
A source added, "The unit will kick off the project in a Mumbai studio, where a set reflecting a North Indian city and another depicting the protagonist's home will be built."
"After the Mumbai leg, they will move to other metro cities. The film will be completed in a start-to-finish schedule of three months."
Ranaut will then take up 'Tanu Weds Manu 3'
The original Queen (2014) was produced by Phantom Films and Viacom18 Motion Pictures.
However, following the dissolution of Phantom Films in 2018, Bahl is now producing Queen 2 under his own banner. He is also credited as the film's writer.
After completing Queen 2, Ranaut will move on to her next project, Tanu Weds Manu 3, directed by Aanand L Rai.
