Shoppers with thinning locks praise 'luxurious' oil that makes hair 'feel stronger'
Shoppers struggling with thinning hair are praising a 'luxurious' treatment oil that they say leaves strands feeling stronger, softer and healthier over time. Designed to be used before washing, it has become a popular choice for those looking to give their hair a little extra care without switching up their entire routine.
The product in question is the Fable & Mane HoliRoots Hair Oil (55ml) for £34 from Cult Beauty. Blending traditional techniques with modern formulas, this nourishing oil is said to focus on supporting the scalp and strengthening hair from the root.
The oil is inspired by traditional Indian hair oiling rituals and is designed to support healthier looking hair from root to tip. Used as a pre-wash treatment, it is applied to dry, parted hair and massaged into the scalp before being rinsed out and followed with a usual shampoo. It can also be left on overnight 'for best results', the site says.
The lightweight, silicone-free formula is suitable for all hair types and works by helping to nourish the scalp while softening and smoothing strands for a silk-like finish. It is infused with ingredients commonly used in Ayurvedic routines, including ashwagandha, which is often associated with helping fine hair appear thicker, and dashmool, which supports scalp circulation.
By focusing on the scalp as well as the lengths, the oil helps create the right conditions for stronger-feeling hair, while also improving manageability and shine. It can be left on for as little as five minutes, or overnight for a more intensive treatment, making it easy to tailor to routines.
Another option is the Kérastase Elixir Ultime Hair Oil (75ml) for £49.73, down from £58.50, at LookFantastic. This is described as a leave-in hair oil that delivers nourishment, visible softness, heat protection and light-reflecting shine to all hair types.
Additionally, Boots has the Hair Syrup Pre-Wash Hair Oil, Grows-Mary (100ml) for £14.50. Ideal for those experiencing thinning, slow growth and dryness, this one should be used at least two to three times a week, according to the description.
Back to the Fable & Mane oil, which has a 4.6 out of five-star rating on Cult Beauty. One happy shopper said: "I love everything about this hair oil! Feels luxurious and smells lovely, not like many oils which have a horrible scent to it. Makes my hair feel stronger especially as it's thinning in places. Haven't really noticed a difference in the growth yet but will continue using!"
Another added: "I have used this oil three times now and it has left my hair feeling so smooth and shiny, I am so impressed! The oil doesn't have a thick consistency and is easy to apply. It doesn't have a strong smell either, so it can (be) easily left on hair overnight. I am so pleased with this purchase, I'd highly recommend it!"
A third commented: "This is more like a dry oil consistency, and really lovely to use. I keep it on all night and wash out the next day with the Fable & Mane shampoo. I have fine processed hair with greasy roots and this doesn't weigh my hair down, really enjoying all of Fable & Mane's products."
Some others disagreed slightly, as one person wrote: "I think it's nice. As a treat. Smells good. But I can't join in the rave reviews because I just don't see a lot of difference."
Another commented: "Love this stuff, not a fan of the dropper but the product is fantastic. My hair is thicker, stronger, softer and generally looks and feels healthier with far less fallout. Only hair oil I will use now."
