At a recent pet adoption drive in the city, Adoptathon 2025, Soha Ali Khan spoke passionately about the joy and fulfilment she has found in adopting stray animals. Recalling how rescued pets transformed her home, she said, “We adopted Nimki and Mishti from here around a decade ago. Mishti has been in our life for 10 years, Nimki for 9. They are the loves of our lives. I know a lot of who act apprehensive about adopting a dog but once you make that shift or you open up your family to more of them, it is really such a rewarding experience. To adopt a dog or a pet is a very fulfilling experience.”

‘They don’t ask for too much’

Highlighting the emotional simplicity of animals who wait for loving homes, Soha emphasised that adoption is not just a kind act, it is life-changing for both the animal and the adopter. She said, “I firmly believe that adopting an underprivileged animal, a rescued puppy or kitten and giving it a forever home with love and emotional support is all that they need. They are voiceless and in need of help and in need of love.”

She also stressed the instinctive compassion children show when introduced to rescued animals. “If you bring children at an adoption drive, they would naturllay want to take all of them home. They are so loving and innocent. We adults have so much more responsibilties to deal with and so, sometimes we think, adopting another living being into our family might be a little problematic, but it is really not. I feel if only we can change some of the mindsets, we can see they really need our help. The ones here, that have been put up for adoption, at least have people looking after them, but there are many more on the streets that are completely without help.”

A Call for Compassion Amid Rising Need

Soha pointed out the worsening condition of stray animals in various cities and the urgent need for public involvement. “All of us know what is happening in Delhi and other states too. These stray animals really need help. We really need to take care of them. I am so happy to see everyone here really cares and it great to see there are so many people are doing this.”

Twelve Years of Advocacy

Her commitment to the cause spans more than a decade. Expressing unwavering support for such initiatives, she shared, “I am 100 percent for adoptions drives. This is something that i will always support. It’s been 12 years that i have been supporting adotipon of stray animals. This is something that i want to do forever and ever.”

Just Show Up—The First Step Is the Hardest

For people hesitant to adopt, Soha offered simple but powerful advice. “For people who are looking to adopt i would say that it is the toughest thing is to show up at an adoption drive. That is the most difficult things. Then once you interact with them you realise some of the puppies and kittens are not in their best form because it is a very stimulating atmosphere and a lot of then must be tired. I think if you allow yourself, you will fall in love. You just need to push yourself a little bit more and take that step.” Her message remains simple yet powerful: every rescued animal deserves a loving home, and every family has the potential to provide one.
