Taste the soul of Maharashtrian and Goan coasts in Hyderabad
Hyderabad’s food scene is always evolving, and this time, it brings a true taste of the coast to the city. Titled The Malvan Chapter, this special food festival at Okra, inside Hyderabad Marriott Hotel & Convention Centre, celebrates the bold and authentic flavours of Malvani cuisine from Maharashtra and Goa’s Konkan region.
Malvani cuisine is all about seafood, fresh fish, prawns, and coastal spices cooked with coconut and kokum. It is spicy, slightly tangy, and full of strong flavours that remind you of meals by the sea.
A plate full of flavourThe experience begins with popular starters like kothimbir vadi and sabudana vada crispy, flavourful, and perfectly balanced. But the real highlight comes with the coastal specialities. The fish fry is a must-try crispy on the outside, soft and juicy inside, with that signature Malvani masala. The prawn curries are rich and coconut-based, while the gravies are deep, spicy, and aromatic.
One of the most loved dishes here is kombdi vade, a traditional Malvani chicken curry served with fluffy, slightly crisp vade (fried bread). It is hearty, spicy, and truly comforting. The mutton gravies are bold and full of flavour, while the chicken sukka brings that intense, dry masala taste that Malvani food is known for.

The highlight of the festival is the Malvani thali, a complete coastal meal served with a variety of dishes.
A typical thali includes: Solkadhi or Kokum Sharbat which is light, tangy, and refreshing. Fish Fry and Fish/Prawn Curry. Kombdi (chicken) or Mutton, Usal (sprouted curry), Sabudana Vada & Kothimbir Vadi, Rice or Bhakri/Vade. Traditional desserts like patoli, dhondas, and kharvas
To end the meal, the kokum sherbet acts as the perfect palate cleanser, cooling and refreshing after all the spice.
