The Craziest Roller Coaster On Earth Is Hidden In Saudi Arabia

Are you a thrill-seeker ? If so, roller coasters are likely at the top of your must-do list every time you visit an amusement park . But have you ever wondered how these adrenaline-pumping rides have evolved over the centuries? The earliest ancestors of the modern roller coaster were Russian ice slides, popular in the 16th and 17th centuries. Riders would slide down ice-covered hills on blocks of ice, with sand at the bottom to create friction and slow them down.

As the popularity of these ice slides grew, wooden sleds with iron runners were introduced, increasing both speed and intensity. The first roller coaster featuring a train attached to a track appeared in 1817. Fast forward to 1912, and Coney Island unveiled the first underfriction roller coaster, designed to keep the train securely on the track, allowing for steeper drops and higher speeds.

Roller coasters truly took off in popularity when Disneyland opened in 1955. Four years later, in 1959, Disney introduced the Matterhorn, the world’s first tubular steel coaster. Since then, the love for roller coasters has only grown, driving demand for faster, more thrilling rides that push the limits of excitement.

If you’re a roller coaster enthusiast, get ready for the ride of a lifetime in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia . In 2023, the city will debut the Falcon’s Flight, which is set to become the world’s tallest, fastest, and longest roller coaster.
