In chapter 4 of the Gita, Bhagwan told Arjuna:
न हि ज्ञानेन सदृशं पवित्रमिह विद्यते |
तत्स्वयं योगसंसिद्ध: कालेनात्मनि विन्दति || 38||
na hi jñānena sadṛiśhaṁ pavitramiha vidyate
tatsvayaṁ yogasansiddhaḥ kālenātmani vindati
English Translation: “In this world, there is nothing as purifying as divine knowledge. One who has attained purity of mind through prolonged practice of Karma Yoga, receives such knowledge within the heart, in due course of time.”
Bhagavad Gita’s Divine Knowledge
A foundational truth that all of us must realise is that the ultimate and eternal flow of consciousness is the same throughout the universe. The same divine consciousness that is active within your friend’s or neighbours soul is working within your as well. The experiential realisation of this truth liberates us from all kinds of miseries and attachments.
Gita’s Path to Liberation
A key step that we should take in order to attain liberation is Karma Yoga. Lord Krishna told Arjuna: "Do your duty, but do not concern yourself with the results.” How to implement this advice in our lives? Lets take an example of your upcoming exam. Dedicate yourself wholeheartedly for preparation. Be absolutely sincere. However, once the exam is over don’t waste your energy worrying about the results.
Secondly, we can start fulfilling our duties as our offerings to Bhagwan. This concept is discussed in Bhagavad Gita as the ultimate ‘Surrender to the Supreme.’ This simple mindset shift will help you in liberating yourself from all kinds of attachments, cravings and aversions.
