According to Swiggy's year-end report, Indians ordered approximately 93 million biryanis on the platform in 2025. This marked the tenth consecutive year that biryani was the most ordered dish. The report stated that while trends may change, people's love for biryani remains constant.

According to the data, a biryani order is placed on Swiggy every 3.25 seconds, which translates to approximately 194 biryanis per minute. Importantly, these figures are for just one platform; they do not include orders from other apps or directly from restaurants.

People's preference for biryani was also evident. Chicken biryani was the most ordered dish, with nearly 57.7 million orders. This combination of flavor and aroma made New Year's Eve parties even more special.

While biryani remained the number one choice, other dishes were not far behind. Burgers came in second, with approximately 44.2 million orders. Pizza followed in third place, while vegetarian dosa also topped the list of favorites.

The ordering frenzy reached its peak on New Year's Eve. Nearly 2.19 lakh biryani orders were placed before 7:30 pm, and by 8 pm, the order rate reached 1,300 biryanis per minute. One customer in Bhubaneswar ordered 16 kg of biryani alone.

The age-old competition between pizza and burgers was also seen on New Year's Eve. By 8:30 p.m., approximately 2.18 lakh pizzas and 2.16 lakh burgers had been delivered. In Bengaluru, a customer ordered 100 burgers, while in Goa, 39 kebabs and tikkas were ordered together.

As the night progressed, the demand for sweets also increased. After around 10:30 p.m., Rasmalai, Carrot Halwa, and Gulab Jamun became the most frequently ordered items.
