BC Sakhi stands for Business Correspondent Sakhi. This scheme is an integral part of the UP State Rural Livelihoods Mission. Under this initiative, active women from villages are trained to provide banking services. The government provides these women with Micro ATMs and digital devices. Now, villagers no longer have to travel to the city or stand in long queues at banks to withdraw money, make deposits, or process payments via Aadhaar cards; their own village 'Sakhi' (friend/associate) handles these tasks right at their homes.

Income Ranging from ₹10,000 to ₹50,000

By joining this scheme, approximately 40,000 women have become self-reliant today. In terms of earnings, these women are making an average of ₹10,000 to ₹15,000 per month through commissions earned on banking transactions. Meanwhile, some diligent women are earning as much as ₹40,000 to ₹50,000 a month, driven by the excellence of their work. This has led to a significant improvement in both the economic status and social standing of women within rural communities.

Support from Major Banks Strengthens the Mission

Witnessing the success of this program, major public sector banks across the country have also partnered with the Uttar Pradesh government. Initially, only SBI and Bank of Baroda were on board; however, major institutions such as Punjab National Bank (PNB), Canara Bank, Union Bank, and Indian Bank are now also driving this mission forward. In districts like Lucknow, Prayagraj, and Sultanpur, this model is scripting new success stories and empowering women to become economically self-reliant.
