Which Documents Are Required to Update Your Aadhaar Address? Learn How to Update It Online
Aadhaar Address Update Online: You no longer need to visit an Aadhaar Center to update your address in your Aadhaar card. You can easily update your address from the comfort of your home using the myAadhaar Portal. Let's explore the complete process.
If you have recently moved into a new home, or if you suddenly realized that your Aadhaar card still lists an address from several years ago, there is no need to worry. The good news is that you no longer have to make repeated trips to an Aadhaar Center to get this corrected. UIDAI now offers a facility that allows you to update your address from home directly through the myAadhaar portal. All you need is a valid proof of address and a mobile number linked to your Aadhaar. Let's now understand, in simple terms, the complete process for updating your address in Aadhaar online.
Which Documents Are Required?
UIDAI accepts various types of documents for updating an address, such as electricity bills, bank statements or passbooks, rent agreements, passports, and Voter IDs. Additionally, other government-issued proofs of address are also considered valid.
Just keep one thing in mind: whatever document you upload, your name and full address must be clearly visible on it. If the scan is blurry, or if a portion of the bill is cut off and the address is not clearly legible, your update request may be rejected.
Steps to Update Your Aadhaar Address Online
- First, visit the myAadhaar Portal.
- Locate the 'Document Update' option there and click on it.
- Enter your Aadhaar number.
- Verify your identity using the OTP received on your registered mobile number.
- Once logged in, select the 'Address Update' option.
- Now, choose your preferred method: either via your own documents or through the 'Head of Family' (HoF).
Accurately fill in your new address details.
- Upload a valid document as proof of address.
- After reviewing all the details, submit your request.
- After submitting, ensure that you save the Acknowledgement Receipt. It contains a 14-digit Update Request Number (URN).
- With the help of this URN, you can track the status of your request online.
How long does it take?
After you submit a request, the UIDAI verifies the details and documents you have provided. Typically, this process can take up to 30 days. The good news is that once the update is approved, you do not need to visit any physical location; you can directly download your updated Aadhaar card online from the official UIDAI website.
