Freedom from oppression has been an occasion of joy for countries across the globe. The moment you finally taste true freedom is exhilarating, so much so that it can make you break into an impromptu dance on a global stage, overwhelmed with happiness.

A similar feeling must have coursed through Hungarian minister Zsolt Hegedus whose dancing steps on a stage celebrating the end of 16 years of autocratic rule by Viktor Orban have gone viral online.

Hegedus, an orthopaedic surgeon and potential Health Minister in Hungary's incoming government broke into an energetic dance on stage following the victory of the Tisza Party led by Peter Magyar . He even appeared to do a homage to AC/DC's Angus Young and was joined by thousands who flooded the streets of Budapest to celebrate the "end of tyranny."

Numerous citizens of the country and across the world echoed Hegedus' sentiment, recalling how Orban aligned with Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump, both of whom had begun wars. Moreover, they also commented on how Hungary could finally join the larger European Union in action, as many saw Orban as a threat to Europe's peace and prosperity.

"Favourite video from last night’s celebrations in Budapest dropped Here is Zsolt Hegedus….leading candidate to become the new Health Minister of Hungary…..this is what defeating a dictator looks like!" wrote one user on X.

"He's fit enough and has the moves to be Health Minister!" commended another.

"Like me, dancing in my living room after getting the news! And think of that, I am a German," added another.

Some users noted how Hegedus' dance moves were 'better' than Trump's who has his own famous YMCA dance move, much to the chagrin of many. "I love this A bit better moves than dancing Trump," one wrote.

"He dances way better than #Trump," added another.

Who is Zsolt Hegedus?

Zsolt Hegedus is viral all over the internet as Hungary's 'Dancing Minister'. He is a member of the Tisza party, which won 138 seats as opposed to the Fidesz coalition's 55. Hegedus is believed to have studied at the Semmelweis University of Medical Sciences , graduating with a medical degree in 1994. He qualified as an Orthopaedic surgeon in 1999. He worked in the UK's NHS for numerous years before returning to Hungary and continuing to practice medicine. As the future health minister, he is expected to reform the country's health system and possibly keep going viral with such energetic moves.

Viktor Orban had been the Prime Minister of Hungary from May 2010 to April 2026. A liberal turned conservative, he was blamed by the people of the country for economic stagnation, corruption, and systemic inequality. On the other hand, Magyar led a movement around the nation, rallying Hungarians tired of cronyism and corruption to fight for a revolution. "Never before in the history of democratic Hungary have so many people voted - and no single party has ever received such a strong mandate," he said on Sunday night, after a record 79.5% of the electorate turned out to vote.

Now, Hungary is expected to be reborn as a stronger nation with Magyar having promised changes to education, health, economic system, judiciary and more.
