Will the Era of Human Soldiers Come to an End? Humanoid Robots Enter the Battlefield; Trials Begin in This Country

Humanoid Robots: Alongside technological advancements worldwide, the field of robotics is also progressing rapidly. Until now, robots designed to resemble humans—known as humanoid robots—have typically been seen in technology showcases and laboratories, where they were being developed for factory operations or minor domestic chores. However, a new report now suggests that the deployment of these robots could soon extend to the battlefield.

According to recently surfaced information, a startup has dispatched such robots to Ukraine, where they can be utilized for surveillance and intelligence-gathering purposes within the combat zone. If this experiment proves successful, the very nature of warfare could undergo a complete transformation in the near future.

Two Specialized Robots Sent to Ukraine

According to the report, Mike LeBlanc—a co-founder of the robotics firm Foundation Robotics and a military veteran—stated that his company sent two Phantom Mk-I humanoid robots to Ukraine earlier this year.

These machines were deployed near the front lines in February to assist with surveillance-related tasks. Currently, this technology remains in the testing phase and is also being evaluated within industrial environments across various countries. If these claims are fully substantiated, this would mark the first instance of a humanoid robot being deployed directly into an active combat zone.

Efforts to Reduce Risks for Soldiers

The company believes that, in the future, such robots could significantly mitigate the risks faced by human soldiers. The strategic plan involves developing future iterations of these robots to perform tasks currently executed by human troops.

According to certain reports, the Phantom Mk-I prototype has also been tested for its capability to handle and operate various types of weaponry. These reportedly include weapons such as pistols and shotguns. The company has also conducted experiments using mock military equipment to assess potential military applications.

The Growing Use of Robotics in Warfare

During the ongoing Russia–Ukraine War, Ukraine has integrated various robotic systems into its military operations. According to data associated with the government initiative United24, more than 7,000 robotic missions were completed in the month of January alone. Many of these missions are not intended for direct combat, but rather for tasks related to supplies and logistics—such as delivering ammunition, weapons, or food and provisions to soldiers.

This Technology Is Still in Its Nascent Stages

However, experts believe that it will take some time before humanoid robots are deployed on a large scale in direct combat. To achieve this, nations will need to develop new technologies, security protocols, and military infrastructure. Nevertheless, it is clear that with the increasing use of robotics and artificial intelligence, future wars could become far more technologically advanced and automated than ever before.
