The first installment of the two-part cinematic adaptation of the ancient epic is scheduled to hit theatres during the festive season of Diwali this year. Since the film’s announcement, fans have been eagerly waiting to see the actors in their mythological avatars. Last year, the makers released a teaser that offered brief glimpses of the characters, further building anticipation around the project.

Recently, social media was flooded with images that appeared to show Ranbir Kapoor and Sai Pallavi dressed as Lord Rama and Sita. The photos quickly went viral, sparking excitement among fans who praised the actors’ looks and the visual appeal of the supposed stills.

In the viral image, both actors are seen wearing elaborate gold crowns and heavy traditional jewellery. Ranbir appears clean-shaven with folded hands, exuding a serene presence, while Sai Pallavi is seen gazing at him gracefully, embodying the traditional depiction of Sita. The visuals impressed many fans, who believed they were leaked images from the film’s set.

Reacting to the photos, one social media user wrote, “Seeing Ranbir Kapoor and Sai Pallavi in the leaked pics from Ramayana already feels magical. If the leaks look this good, imagine the official visuals. Goosebumps already!” Another netizen made a sarcastic comparison with another mythological film and commented, “144p on set pics far better than Adipurush 4K full movie.”

However, the viral images turned out to be misleading. Contrary to widespread belief, the pictures were not taken on the sets of Nitesh Tiwari’s upcoming film. Instead, they were digitally altered images created using artificial intelligence.

The visuals were actually based on stills from the popular television series Siya Ke Ram. In the original images from the show, actors portraying Lord Rama and Sita were featured in the same poses. AI tools were used to replace their faces with those of Ranbir Kapoor and Sai Pallavi, creating a convincing but entirely fabricated visual.

Actor Ashish Sharma, who played Lord Rama in the 2015 television series, addressed the viral images on social media. Sharing one of the altered photos, he jokingly wrote, “Here you go. One more ‘Original’ leaked image. AI couldn’t replace my hair.”

His humorous post clarified the confusion and confirmed that the viral photos had nothing to do with the upcoming film.

The incident also triggered discussions online about the original television series and its performances. Some fans fondly remembered Sharma’s portrayal of Lord Rama in the show, praising the chemistry between the lead actors and the overall presentation of the mythological story.

One user commented that the actors in “Siya Ke Ram” had remarkable chemistry that made the portrayal of Rama and Sita feel authentic. Another Reddit user noted that Sharma delivered a calm and graceful performance befitting the legendary character, adding that the show’s music and background score enhanced the storytelling.

Meanwhile, the makers of Nitesh Tiwari’s film had planned a major event to reveal the official character looks. The launch was scheduled for March 26 on the occasion of Rama Navami at the iconic Gateway of India.

However, the event has now been postponed due to rising global tensions linked to the ongoing conflict involving the United States, Israel and Iran.

According to a report, the producers decided to delay the showcase considering the international scale of the project. A source reportedly stated that while the Ram Navami launch was planned as a grand reveal moment, the team felt the current global situation was not ideal for unveiling such significant material from a film intended for worldwide audiences.

Despite the postponement and the confusion created by AI-generated images, excitement around “Ramayana” continues to grow as fans eagerly await the official first look of the film’s star-studded cast.
